Cookies

Effective date: October 26, 2026

Cookies are small text files a site stores on your browser. PV Informer uses a short list: one cookie to remember your analytics choice, Google Analytics cookies only when that choice allows them, MailPoet cookies to run the email newsletter, and ad-pixel cookies from Meta, TikTok, and X only if you press OK.

Your choice

The choice is handled by our plugin, pvi-cookie-consent.

  • United States. In the US, and in other places outside the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, page-view analytics is on until you opt out. The notice offers OK and Decline; Decline turns analytics off and deletes the analytics cookies.
  • Outside the US. The site is built for US readers and works the same way for every visitor: analytics is on until you press Decline.
  • Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track. If your browser sends GPC or DNT, analytics stays off. That signal wins over a previous acceptance.

Use Privacy choices at the bottom of any page to change your mind. Opting out deletes the analytics cookies this tool can see. The Privacy page explains what the count is for.

Analytics cookies (_ga)

These come from Google Analytics 4, measurement ID G-SN1V363M80, and only after analytics is allowed. Advertising storage, Google signals, and ad personalization are off. The tag does not receive your name or email.

_ga

Set by Google Analytics. Distinguishes one browser from another so we can tell a new visit from a returning one. Lasts up to 2 years.

_ga_SN1V363M80

Set by Google Analytics for this measurement ID. Keeps session state for the same page-view count. Lasts up to 2 years.

If Google also sets _gid (about 24 hours) or _gat (about a minute), the consent tool deletes them when you opt out. We do not use Google ad cookies such as _gcl_au.

Consent cookie

pvi_cc

Set by PV Informer. Remembers whether analytics is on or off, whether you made that choice on purpose, and when the choice expires. A typical value looks like v2.m1.a0.e…. It does not contain your name or email. It lasts about 183 days. The same value is copied to this site’s local storage under the name pvi_cc so the choice is still there if the cookie is missing for a moment. Clearing site data for pvinformer.com removes both.

Ad pixel cookies (Meta, TikTok, X)

These are set only after you press OK in the cookie notice. Decline, Global Privacy Control, or Do Not Track keeps the pixels off. When you decline, we delete the ones this site can see; cookies stored on the companies’ own domains are controlled by your browser and their settings. See the Privacy page for what the pixels do.

_fbp, _fbc

Set by the Meta Pixel to recognize your browser on later visits and link a visit to a Facebook or Instagram ad click. Last about 90 days.

_ttp

Set by the TikTok Pixel to recognize your browser on later visits. Lasts about 13 months.

personalization_id, muc_ads, _twclid

Set by the X Pixel to recognize your browser and link a visit to an X ad click. Last up to about 2 years.

MailPoet cookies

The email newsletter is sent with MailPoet. The sign-up form is at /subscribe/. It uses a hidden honeypot field and a simple math question to block spam. It is not a popup. MailPoet may set the cookies below so the newsletter can tell subscribers apart and can stop mailing people who never read the note. They are not advertising cookies. We do not use MailPoet’s shop cookie (mailpoet_revenue_tracking); this site has no store.

mailpoet_subscriber

Set by MailPoet when it needs to recognize a subscriber in the browser, including so a preferences or unsubscribe link matches the right person. It can last until you clear this site’s data.

mailpoet_page_view

Set by MailPoet to count that a subscriber opened pages, which is how inactive subscribers are spotted. It can last until you clear this site’s data.

Cookies we do not use for readers

Logged-in editors get WordPress login cookies. Readers do not.

If we later add light, non-personalized ads, we will update this page and the Privacy page first. Those ads would not add personalized-ad cookies.

Browser controls

You can block or delete cookies in your browser. Blocking pvi_cc means we cannot remember an opt-out on the next visit, so the bar may appear again. Blocking all cookies can also get in the way of the newsletter links.
