Privacy

Effective date: October 26, 2026

PV Informer operates pvinformer.com, a free local events website for the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and how you can contact us about your privacy.

Information we collect

You can read the site without an account and without giving us your name.

  • Pages you read. When analytics is allowed, Google Analytics 4 counts page views. The measurement ID is G-SN1V363M80. The tag is set so advertising features, Google signals, and ad personalization stay off. IP anonymization is on, Google data sharing and remarketing are off. Google Analytics is set to keep detailed event data for 2 months (its shortest setting) and user-level data for 14 months. We do not send Google your name or email. Details and cookie names are on the Cookies page.
  • Email newsletter. If you sign up at Subscribe, we collect your email address, an optional first name, the delivery days you pick, and the topics and schools you pick. MailPoet, the newsletter tool on this site, stores that so we can send the note on the days you chose. We send a confirmation first. The note starts only after you confirm (double opt-in). Every note has a link to change those choices and a link to unsubscribe, and we honor unsubscribes promptly.
  • Reports and requests. The report form collects the page address, what you tell us is wrong, and an email address only if you type one. We use it for corrections, privacy requests, and accessibility feedback.
  • Event and organization submissions. We collect the event or organization details, links, images, contact name, and email address you provide. We use this information to review submissions, prepare listings, and contact you about your submission. Approved event details and images may be published. Names and email addresses entered in fields marked private are not published. Submitting an event or organization does not subscribe you to our newsletter.
  • Host logs. The site is hosted on EasyWP by Namecheap. The host may keep ordinary connection logs, such as IP address, browser type, and the time of a request, to run and protect the site. We do not use those logs to advertise.

Cookies and analytics

PV Informer is for readers in the United States. Page-view analytics is on until you opt out: press Decline in the cookie notice, or use Privacy choices at the bottom of any page.

Global Privacy Control (GPC) and Do Not Track (DNT) are honored. When your browser sends either signal, analytics stays off. You can also use Privacy choices at the bottom of the site at any time. Opting out deletes the analytics cookies our tool can see.

Ad pixels from Meta, TikTok, and X stay off unless you press OK in the cookie notice (see Ad pixels below). Your choice is stored in a first-party cookie named pvi_cc, described on the Cookies page.

Google Analytics: we use Google Analytics, as described above. To learn how Google uses data from sites that use its services, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Besides our Privacy choices link, you can also use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Ad pixels (Meta, TikTok, X)

We use the Meta Pixel, the TikTok Pixel, and the X Pixel to count visits from people who use those services, so we can see how readers find us and decide whether to advertise PV Informer there. They report which pages you view, along with browser details and cookie IDs those companies use to recognize your browser.

They load only after you press OK in the cookie notice. If you press Decline, or your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track, they stay off. You can change your mind any time with Privacy choices at the bottom of any page. We do not send these companies your name or email, and we have turned off their automatic matching of form entries.

Each company handles this data under its own policy: Meta Privacy Policy, TikTok Privacy Policy, and X Privacy Policy. Cookie names are on the Cookies page.

Who else handles information

  • Google receives analytics data only when analytics is allowed, and only as described above.
  • MailPoet stores newsletter details on this site so we can send, confirm, and stop the newsletter. MailPoet’s sending service may process the email address in order to deliver the message.
  • Namecheap (EasyWP) hosts the site and may process connection logs for that purpose.

Event listings link to official city, school, library, and county pages. Those sites have their own privacy practices.

Selling and sharing

We do not sell personal information. If you press OK in the cookie notice, the Meta, TikTok, and X pixels send page-view data to those companies, which California law may treat as “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising. That happens only after you press OK, and Decline, Privacy choices, or a Global Privacy Control signal stops it. Subscriber addresses are not given to sponsors or advertisers.

Later, the newsletter may include labeled sponsor messages that we sell directly, and the site may show light ads that are not personalized. That is not happening now. If we start, we will update this page first. Those ads would not be personalized, and sponsors would still not receive the subscriber list.

California privacy rights

This section is for California residents and covers the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended, and the California Online Privacy Protection Act.

In the past 12 months we collect the categories above: identifiers (such as an email address, if you subscribe or if you type one into a form), internet activity (page views, when analytics is allowed, and shared with Meta, TikTok, and X only after you press OK), and approximate location that Google may infer from an anonymized IP address. We collect them to run the site, count which pages help readers, send the newsletter you asked for, and answer reports. We do not collect sensitive personal information such as government ID numbers, precise location, or financial account numbers. Please do not send those in a form.

You can ask us to tell you what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it. You can opt out of sale or sharing; our practice is that we do not sell or share personal information, and a GPC signal is treated as that opt-out. You can unsubscribe or change newsletter choices from any newsletter without sending a separate request. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

To ask, use the report form and say it is a privacy request. Include the email you used if you subscribed, and an email in the form so we can respond. We may need to confirm that the request is yours. An authorized agent may submit a request the same way; we may ask the subscriber to confirm it.

California Online Privacy Protection Act (CalOPPA): we respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals by keeping analytics off, as described above. The categories we collect and the parties who receive them are listed above. To review or request a change, use the report form or the links in any newsletter. When this policy changes in a material way, we post the new version on this page and change the effective date.

Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information

We do not sell personal information. The only “sharing” is the ad pixels described above, and they are off until you press OK. To opt out at any time, open Privacy choices at the bottom of any page and press Decline. A Global Privacy Control signal from your browser is already treated as an opt-out of sale or sharing, and it also turns analytics off.

Children under 13

PV Informer is written for adults, parents, and families on the Peninsula. It lists school events for parents, but it is not directed at children under 13. Children under 13 should not subscribe or use the forms, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you are a parent and believe a child under 13 sent us personal information, tell us through the report form and we will delete it.

Visitors in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland

The site is built for US readers. Analytics runs for every visitor unless you press Decline or your browser sends Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track. We send the newsletter because you asked for it and confirmed (consent), and we handle reports to answer them and keep the site accurate (our legitimate interest). You can withdraw consent at any time with Privacy choices or the unsubscribe link. You may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, or move your information, or object to how we use it, using the report form. You can also complain to your local data protection authority. Our service providers, including Google, may process data in the United States.

How long we keep it

Newsletter details stay until you unsubscribe. Error reports stay until we have finished the correction or the request, and then we delete them. Analytics cookies expire on the schedule on the Cookies page. Host logs follow the host’s own retention.
