Rancho Palos Verdes declared a local emergency ahead of the expected El Niño winter, eased rules for wireless facilities on private property, and began updating its ADU rules to match state law.
The Rancho Palos Verdes City Council proclaimed a local emergency ahead of the forecast El Niño winter. The declaration lets the city purchase and stage storm resources faster, with the city staff report naming the Portuguese Bend landslide area and Palos Verdes Drive South as areas of concern. It took effect immediately and must be reviewed periodically while it remains in place.
The council also gave first approval on Oct. 6 to an ordinance that would make it easier for wireless carriers to place facilities on private property, with the final vote scheduled for Oct. 20, and it started updating the city's accessory dwelling unit (ADU) rules to comply with state law.
Staff gave an informational report on Cal Water's process for downsizing residential water meters, which affects the fixed charge on customers' bills. The council's closed-session agenda was amended to consider starting litigation in two cases; no details have been made public.
